After a long Struggle with various diseases, today Etta James has died from Leukemia. Known as the Queen of Blues, she has for long years been reknowned as the foremost female voice in the genre. Besides that she has been a pioneer in integrating Soul and Gospel elements in the Blues.
Apart from gathering millions of fans, during her long career she also made many enemies, mainly in conservative circles, who could not bear her free stances on female equality and sexuality.
Etta leaves behind her a long discography and a turbulent life, which have inspired many. She was 73 years old.
