Biographie : Floodland
Not later than with the first full-lenght-CD "The Now and Here Is Never" (1998, label: Serpent Qui Danse), Floodland becomes a focal point in the local underground scene.
Enthusiastic press reactions in their home country (kurier : "pleasant gloominess Floodland, made in austria") and in germany (hammer : "definitely one of the most beautiful works of traditional dark rock during the last years ...") concede Floodland remarkable potential.
At the same time the viennese band had first success on stage as well (forestglade festival Wiesen : supporting "Marilyn Manson", planet music vienna : support for "The Gathering").
Internationally Floodland cause quite a stir with their second album "Ocean of the Lost" (2001, label: Wait And Bleed Records).
The band took plenty of time and obligated experienced producer milos "dodo" dolezal. high to highest ratings in the trade press as well as in fan- and webzines all over the world speak about a "top-CD, which gives new hope to the genre" (zillo) or "an outstandingly good gothic album" (orkusFloodland, 9 out of 10 points).
It's no wonder that the next works "Decay" reaches the next step of world-wide distribution, world-wide recognition. Again recorded and mixed by well-tried producer dodo dolezal, the cd shows "10 songs full of expressiveness, emotion and depth" (emp). on one hand the logical continuation of the previous masterpiece "Ocean Of The Lost", on the other even more individual and confident.
Also music magazines all over the world like hammer ("an off-beat and original gothic-rock-album"), orkus ("sluggish dark ballads and powerful dark-rock-fireworks make "Decay" a brilliant album") or gothic ("Floodland is nowadays the spearhead of goth made in austria !") are full of praise for the rapidly progressing band.
Floodland get similar praises for their two entries to the rammstein-tribute-sampler "Battery" (2002, "heirate mich" and "seemann") as well as for their cover of "A forest" as a contribution to the cure-tribute "our voices" (2004).
After having celebrated the band's 10th anniversary with a 3-hour-live-set and the CD "10 years, 10 songs" (2005, self distributed), Floodland begins to write songs for a new album.
In 2006, finally 17 songs are recorded (of course at dodo's hacienda studio), from which 10 are chosen for the forthcoming CD "Nameless", which is on its way to stores all over the world these days.
One fact right away : the songs sound epic as usual, including lots of melodies and catchy chorusses. Great guitarwork, extraordinary bassplaying and powerful drums combined with decent electronics form ideal surroundings to the intense and extremely versatile voice of christian meyer.
