GENERAL INTRODUCTION

Spirit of Metal and Spirit of Rock, commonly surnamed SoM and SoR, their members being the "Somians", are both Websites dedicated to the Metal for SoM and Rock for SoR.
All genres of Metal are included one SoM: from Hard FM to Black Metal as well as all type and declinations of Rock are included on SoR: from AOR to psychedelic.

The aim of both sites is to be the as well encyclopaedias referencing thousands of data concerning bands and also, real Webzines with interviews, picture galleries, reviews and also to be a community through their different Forums musical ones or no.

Both sites’ functioning is easy: the First circle members are the Administrators.

Their roles are to make sure that both sites are globally operational, to do so, each member have some specific tasks and skills: technique (computing programming), reviews / interviews, management of the encyclopedia, management of the Forums, etc...

There are also diverse and varied working groups, dedicated to the correction of the errors contained in the encyclopedia, validation of the new pages, second reading and in the validation of reviews, Forum’s moderation etc.

When you will be familiar with these sites and their rules, you will have the possibility to join one of these groups either through your demand or through a proposition sent to you by an Admin.

The present technical guide is dedicated to the general presentation of these sites; you will find explanations onto what you can make and what the sites Admins globally expects from you.

For sure, these sites evolve from day to day, in order to improve and answer new needs. This guide might then be sometimes incomplete.

If you don’t find an answer to a question, don’t hesitate to contact an Admin from the First Circle through the site’s Private Messaging. You can also raise your questions on the “Help Forum”.


THE FUNCTIONINGS OF SPIRIT OF METAL AND SPIRIT OF ROCK

THE CIRCLES

Spirit of Metal and Spirit of Rock’s circles: this strange name indicating in fact each member’s rank on the site. The appurtenance to a determined circle refers to what kind of actions are owned / accessible to a member.

The Fifth Circle is the one of lower level; the one allocated the new registered members by default.

The more a member belongs to a circle of high rank, the more possibilities to can add any kind of submissions without being controlled will be offered

CIRCLES AND SUB-CIRCLES

There are 5 circles, from the 5th to the 1st.

The First Circle is reserved to the administrators.

You might change from one Circle to another by submitting items as bands, reviews, pictures galleries and so on or modify some existing data.

There is a scale (see here paragraph 1.1.2) defining how much points you will have regarding the kind of submission proposed.

5th CIRCLE

From your registration on SoM and /or SoR, you’re part of this circle. It has the lower level; as a consequence, all your submissions and / or modifications will systematically being controlled by a member either of the First Circle or by one being part of the validation team.

The reason why is easy to understand, as a beginner, you don’t necessary own the rules that must be applied to have correctly submit / add / remove or modify an item.

20 submissions a day are allowed.

4th CIRCLE

The access to this circle is automatically given once 1000 points acquired. 40 submissions a day are allowed.

3rd CIRCLE

The access to this circle is automatically given once 3000 points acquired. You can make 60 submissions a day.

2nd CIRCLE

The access to this circle is automatically given once 6000 points acquired. You can make 100 submissions a day.

1st CIRCLE

This circle is reserved for the administrators either for Spirit of Metal or for Spirit of Rock.

Here the rule above change. Accessing to this Circle means participate to the evolution of SoM and / or SoR.

In this specific case, points collected just don’t matter even if it won’t make sense to accept someone without the required experience allowing majors changes.

To enter this Circle, to whole members of the Circle must agree. If an administrator leaves this function, he reinstates the circle to which he aspires according to the number of points collected.

RISE IN THE SOMIAN HIERARCHY

As previously explained SoM and SoR system is very simple: each member can modify any existing pages on the site, either to correct errors, or to specify missing information.

Every member can also create a new page if he think that a band, a record, a label misses in the database.

Each modifications or additions, once checked by either an Admin or a member of the validation team brings some points according to the table below:

· New band: 10 points

· New record: 6 points

· New comment: 1 point

· New lyrics: 8 points

· New label: 3 points

· New profile of a band’s member: 10 points

· News publication: 5 points

· New biography: 8 points

· New picture gallery: 15 points

· New video: 4 points

· New diverse link: 2 points

· New review: 15 points

· New Metal place: 10 points

· Modification of a Metal place: 5 points

· Modification of a band: 5 points

· Modification of a record: 2 points

· Transfer of a comment: 14 points

· Modification of lyrics: 6 points

· Modification of a label: 6 points

· Modification of a biography: 4 points


To rise in both sites’ hierarchy, from a circle to another, not only you must have collected the number of points defined in the previous paragraph, but the Admins agreement will also be needed.

The Admins (funny guys believe me) met between them from time to time (around a huge BBQ, yeah being part is great no ?), to check from time to time to if, besides the necessary minimum points, a member respects the guide of the submissions but also if its interventions on the Forum are made by respecting the rules.

As more as you will make correct submissions, as much you will collect points, allowing you to progress in the Somian hierarchy.

You can then regularly progress from the Fifth to the Second Circle. It might be proposed to the most hard-working (or cute, we’re working on the criteria’s) of you to be part of a team (management of the encyclopedia, the moderators of Forums, approvers of submissions, proofreaders of reviews, verifiers of videos, etc.).


THE CIRCLE OF HONOR

The Circle of Honor rewards people hardly involved on SoM and / or SoR. This honorary award, will be displayed in your profile (and you’ll get rich, and famous and have tons of fans), it will also give you an privileged access to certain parts as: the Forum of the honorary members, an access to SoM and SoR exclusivities as invitations in the meetings / meetings of the team (but you must bring beer with you, of course

· Julien (France) - Person in charge of the official reviewers and the part Webzine on the French version.

· Opeth59 (France) - Person in charge of labels on both sites and validation / second reading of reviews on Spirit of Metal and blacklisting

· Skinless (Germany) - Person in charge of the official reviewers and the community part on the English version of Spirit of Metal

· Tango666 (France) - Person in charge of the validation of submissions on Spirit of Metal and of Metal Map


ACCESSING THE POST OF ADMINISTRATOR

According to the fluctuations in the presence of the administrators, but also in the enlargement of the site or the new specificities, it is possible to recruit new people.

These can be proposed by an administrator, but the decision will be taken during collective discussions. The expected qualities are of the availability for the site, to be comfortable with English language is clearly helpful, because due to the internationalization of both sites, the exchanges between administrators are made through this language.

THE ROLE OF AN ADMINISTRATOR

An administrator handles the management of the site in everyday life (until he / she dies, of course).

He has to validate the submissions or, answer the various messages, being present on diverse Forums and also, feed the Webzine. He also manages one or several working teams. He proposes and works on projects of improvement.

Kivan is the webmaster and the creator of SoM and SoR, both were created in 2003.


WORKING TEAMS ON SoM AND SoR

To always improve both sites quality, a certain number of working teams were created.

SECOND READING AND VALIDATION OF REVIEWS’ TEAM

This team was organized in 2009. As you might guess, its first purpose is to validate the new reviews posted by the Somians.

They have to do so in respect of the rules contained on the guide of the submissions. This task consists in accepting or not the proposed texts, possibly after modifications which will be required to the members concerned.
Secondly, the team also read previous reviews already posted on SoM or SoR.

These previous reviews are readed again in order to, corrected them if need, and change their status if once again needed (maintained as a review or becoming a comment, promoted from comment to review).

This team is actually composed by ten members, an Admin supervise the team being their leader and referent in case of need. He also check the Forums, recruit new members and define some objectives.
He is also in charge to manage the various technical problems met by the members.

The team members might also cumulate different tasks approver or proofreader if feels conformable enough to do so.

MANAGEMENT OF THE ENCYCLOPEDIA’S TEAM

This team was created August, 2007. Two different groups compose the team: the controllers and the researchers.

The first purpose of the controllers is to verify the conformity of the pages of the encyclopedia with regard to the guide of the submissions.
They are thus brought to make the necessary corrections concerning the layout of the existing index cards.
Secondly, their work consists in verifying the truthfulness of the supplied information, even in completing it when necessary, either by adding information about a pre-existent index card, or by creating a new one (new record, biography, lyrics, etc.).

The controllers might not have the necessary time to make the researches on long and complex information (in particular for bands with poor information accessible).
A second working group composed by members of the previous one, called the researchers, is dedicated to search answers to these complex questions.
Above all this, a member of the team manages the project "Ingenuity", which allows the whole Somian community, contribute to the researches. The results are then added with those already brought by the researchers.

The team is supervised by an Admin, who contributes to the animation of the team (through a private Forum) and manages the various problems met by the members.


He also reports to the others First Circles Admins in order to inform and give them an overview of the whole on going projects, he also measure with the other Admins if they will be impacts between current and on going projects.

In order to give an overview to the team on some achievements, a reporting is provided by the whole members every two weeks, the whole information is contained on shared files.
These file not only resumes the work done either by researchers or finders but also, summarize the encountered problems.
The Admin make a fast synthesis of these documents, in particular by supplying statistics and list of the researches done, and provide it to the researchers’ team.

COMMUNICATION TEAM

This team was created in autumn, 2009. Its first purpose is as you might guess, to communicate on both sites’ events and also to make the link between the Somian community and the Admins

The members of the team are thus brought going through the whole Forums to bring important information’s as: projects leaded by the Admins, answers to the daily problems encountered by some Somians,…

In parallel, the team raise the requests done by Somians which would not have been correctly taken into account or, which would haven’t received any answer for such a long time.
This team can also refuse / reject a request already handled, explaining then the position taken by the Admins.

This team is not really limited in terms of members; it can fluctuate according to needs (in particular be increased according to the growth of the site).
It’s composed by English-speaking Admins and also French-speaking ones, and, if needed, of additional members to help them in their tasks.

Although presents on all the English-speaking and French-speaking Forums, the members of the team work more particularly on the Help Forums dedicated to the improvement of both sites.


CORRECTION OF LABELS TEAM

This team was organized in 2008. Its first purpose is to verify the existence of labels listed in the encyclopedia, to eliminate the errors such as the distributors or the recording studios for example.
Secondly, this team also completes the label’s index cards in order to provide a maximum of information on each of them: logo, web site and nationality.

This team is composed by ten members, of whom an Admin who supervise the team, check the Forums, recruit new members and define some objectives.
He is also in charge to manage the various technical problems met by the members.


CHECK OF VIDEOS’ TEAM

This team was created in August 2008. Its first purpose is to check the conformity of the submitted videos with regard to the guide of the submissions. Their members might delete some if the video doesn’t match with the requirements expressed on the guide of submissions.

Secondly, they control the quality and the conformity of the already on-line videos. They make the corrections and the necessary deletions, SoM and SoR only propose high quality videos, correctly introduced and correctly indexed.

Part of their job globally consists, in reappointing and in reclassifying the badly introduced videos, also deleting all the poor quality videos.

This team is composed by an Admin which job consists to coordinate the team, he also leads check the Forums, recruit new members and define some objectives.
He is also in charge to manage the various technical problems met by the members.
The database is divided through alphabetical order; each team member takes care of a part of the database.

In order to give an overview and on some achievements to the team, a monthly reporting is provided by the whole members, the whole information is contained on a shared file.


FORUMS MODERATION TEAM

The first purpose of this team is to contribute to the good behavior of the public Forums on both sites, to avoid any overflowing against the define rules (see paragraph 2.1).

This team is composed by ten members, the team is supervised by an Admin, who contributes to the animation of the team (through a private Forum) and manages the various problems met by the members.

Their members navigate through the whole existing public Forums, control their good behavior and receive the messages sent by Somians in order to let him know that a member does not respect the rules.


VALIDATION OF THE SUBMISSIONS TEAM

This team was created by end of 2007; it was a time when the Admins were so involved on many developments that they just couldn’t face the validation of the submissions made by the Somians.

The aim of this team is simply to review all the submissions made on both sites (additions, deletions or modifications), to verify the truthfulness of the presented information and their correspondence with the guide of the submissions (standards of presentation, quality of texts and pictures).

If necessary the members might have to delete some inadequate submissions or, request some changes to the member concerned (change an item, complete information…).
Every member follow the submissions in a common list but manages its own list of requirements referring to submissions considered incomplete or badly presented.

This team is not composed by a specific number of members.
If it needs to grow, (more and more submissions arriving), the Admin can recruit new members.
All Admins are by default, members of this team, their range allows them to validate or required a change for any item submitted.
However, as in all other teams, an Admin leads the overall work, animates the team, manages the attributions and verifies if the needed, the works done by the team.

As any validation team, this one also owns is private Forum, members can then exchange and comment either about the information needed to achieve part of their mission or necessary for their mission, receive some recommendations from their Admin or expose encountered problems.

Each members of this team may have some specific abilities / knowledge as for an example, some will check and validate labels, some others Metal Places and so on.


OFFICIAL REVIEWERS TEAM

This team was created on 2005. Its purpose is to review on both sites even if usually a member subscribing on SoM will only review Metal bands and same thing for SoR members but, review both styles is possible.

Reviews can concern all releases made by the bands through all type of supports: CDs, EPs and DVD.

The reviewer must have listen or see in case of a DVD, to dissect a production and make a relevant criticism. He also has to verify the truthfulness of the information contained on the index card “Record”, if needed he will have to add himself the missing parts.

The orientation of the criticism must be as appropriate as possible, an opinion always must comes along with real and solid arguments (musical redundancy, quality of production, etc.). Furthermore, the official reviewer is brought to realize interviews (mostly by mail) in touch with the bands which he previously reviewed.

Every reviewer will evolve on his most familiar style, in other words: review what you know. It might happen during a rush, that a reviewer not necessary familiar with a specific style, receive a request. There is no obligation for him / her however if the reviewer feels comfortable enough with the proposed review, he / she can write it.


This team is leaded by an Admin, who contributes to his animation, manages the contribution in novelties and participle to the criticism of certain albums.

A schedule is set up over two weeks, all the reviewers must send to the Admin, the achieved reviews specifying the graduation
If a delay is needed, the reviewers don’t have to loose or waste time, just finish their reviews as quick as possible and send the links to the Admin.


TRANSLATORS TEAM

This team was created in November, 2009. Its purpose is to link between the various parts /versions of both sites.

SoM and SoR and becoming more and more multilingual, at this step, French, English, Spanish, Russian, German and Chinese versions exists. The translators are thus brought to make different translations for SoM and SoR.

The translations might concern different parts: technical ones (guides, projects, new modules), encyclopaedic elements and / or Webzine items (news, reviews and biographies).

The members of the team in regard of their linguistics skills may translate from a language to another.

This team is composed by an Admin having the same roles and responsibilities than the ones described above. The work to do is based on voluntary. If a translator accepts to do a part, he just does it.

Translating might quickly become a huge part, from reviews to interviews or guides it cans only be based on voluntary propose on the team’s Forum.

The team Admin or sometimes, other Admins may come in order to suggest some translations according to their needs.

In parallel at these punctual needs, translators work daily on news, reviews, and interviews handling these texts chronologically.


DEVELOPERS TEAM

This team was created in spring, 2010. The purpose of this team is to develop the site, from a technical point of view,

Kivan leads and manage the whole aspects and projects, notably by distributing the works to be made and by fixing objectives, qualitative and quantitative, as well as the lead times of the projects

These developments take into account all the technical elements necessary to the sites’ life: programming data processing, conception and creation of new pages, maintenance of the site (correction of abnormalities for example), design, etc.


This team is not restricted, their members being able to fluctuate according to the needs of moment.


LOGOS AND MEDALS

Every working team possesses a logo. It allows every Somian to track down, notably on the Forums, the members of each teams.

Also, inside every team, there are three medals: bronze, silver and gold rewarding the implication of every member.
These medals are given be the Admin of each group, he decide by his own.

CONTEST

CHRISTMAS CONTEST

Every year since 2007, for Christmas, a contest is organized; the winners may have records, Gigs places or most beautiful girl / Chippendale of the year private phone number (once more, criteria’s are on the way).

The subject change every year; competition of greetings cards in 2007, pictures competition in 2008, crosswords in 2009, test blind in 2010 …


THE FORUMS

The Forums are there to provide exchanges and conviviality on musical subjects or not. Access the Forums, From the homepage; select the tab "Forums".


THE CHARTER

ROLE OF THE CHARTER

Aims of this charter:

· To inform the members of the Forum rules,
· To remind the responsibilities every member has being part of a community,
· To allow the good functioning of the Forum, as a place of exchange and conviviality.

Read a charter is always a rough part but, following and applying its rules and recommendations is the price to pay to have a site made with the highest quality possible.

The rules of this charter are not negotiable, and the members wishing to use the Forum will have to do it acknowledging all its content.

THE RESPECT FOR THE PERSONS

Everyone will have to respect each other, on any Forum you will access this is the most basic rule to follow.
All exchanges will be tolerated as far as they follow the rule of respect.
All the insults, the hurtful comments and the personal attacks will be sanctioned.

THE TOLERANCE

No discriminatory comment is allowed on a Forum, most particularly racist and xenophobic comments which are reprehensible according to the French current law.
SoM and SoR Admins will show an overall intransigence on this part.
Every member who may not respect this rule will be banished from the Forum or, from both sites.

COPYRIGHTS

According to the copyrights, it is forbidden to publish pictures of persons without the assent of these last ones.

All pictures published without copyright will be removed. It will be the same for any private information which would be diffused without assent of the person concerned.

THE IMAGES, PICTURES, AVATARS & LOGOS

Any pornographic, obscene or shocking character (pictures, logos, etc. posted on the Forum), will be deleted by an Admin or a moderator.
The member violating this article will be warned at first, and sanctioned in case of recurrence.

THE TEXTS

Any text posted on the Forum must be correctly written. No SMS allowed, and an effort must be made to make it understandable for the other members (grammar and spelling, punctuation, spelling,…).

THE SUBJECT

Topics and posts associates have to be in coherence with the subject of every Forum. They must be a minimum constructive.

In the same way, the deliberated provocations intended to destabilize the good progress of a topic are not admitted in other words: no Trolls allowed.

The remarks and the indications supplied by the moderators owe be respected at the risk of penalty.

IRRELEVANCES

Every post added must be relied to the subject developed in the topic / Forum. No irrelevances will be accepted. A certain tolerance is admitted, but the succession of irrelevant posts is not admitted and can be sanctioned in case of recurrence after a first remark done by a moderator.

SIGNATURES

The charter also applies to the signatures of a profile. Any signature that may not correspond to this charter must be modified, the moderator will contact the member through PM. In case of no modification done, the member will be sanctioned.

Besides, it is asked to preserve a reasonable size not to block the pages of the Forums, in other terms, don’t include the full list of your favorite’s bands or your best records ever.

Also, the Flash coded animations can generate problems for the epileptics, so they are banned.

THE POLITICS

A political Forum allows discussing on this subject. All the rules of the charter must be applied to this Forum.

Actually, the polemical, provocative posts or simply except subject concerning the politics is banned from other Forums.

THE FLOOD

The flood (write several posts in a row on the Forums) is not allowed the function EDIT allows to complete a post rather than to create a new one. There are exceptions for the typical topics "Juke Box" or "Which album you are listening to ".

The notion of flood also applies to the creation of topics. It’s creator’s responsibility to make sure that an equivalent topic does not already exist (using the “Search” function to check). If needed, the concerned topic will automatically be deleted.

THE TCHAT

The Tchat is a tool different from the Forum, it allows to open discussions, in a more informal way. However the ethical rules of this charter are also applicable to the Tchat.

THE CENSORSHIP / ROLE OF MODERATION

Moderators h ave the right, as far as a non compliance with the charter is turned out, to proceed to the modification or the deletion of a message, remove, lock or delete a topic.
Once the member been advertised, one of three stars (look on your profile) might be taken out, it also might occur as well a banishment of the member from this Forum.

All the penalties will be the object of a justified through PM; the moderators can be reached by the concerned members for any additional explanation.

MODERATION

In order to keep the Forums for exchanges and conviviality, it is necessary to supervised this ones by moderators, in order to apply the charter (see paragraph 1.3.6).

THE ROLE OF THE MODERATOR

The role of the moderator is to watch, to calm the conflicts, to explain and to punish if needed.

The Admins are also by definition moderators, even if they are not officially part of the team (see paragraph 1.2.3).

A member can indicate a message excepting the charter to do so: from the message incriminated under the pseudo of the member, click the icon with the exclamation point. A message will be sent to the moderator of the Forum as well as to the Admins. They will analyze the message and will take the adequate penalties if required.


THE PENALTIES

Every member has 3 visible stars under the pseudo. It is possible to lose a star for non compliance with the charter; this star will reappear after a month.

During the loss of three stars, the concerned member is banished from the Forums until the return of the first star. It is possible, in case of grave disrespect, to be temporarily or definitively banished whatever the number of stars is.

VARIOUS TYPES OF FORUMS

From the homepage of the Forums, there are 5 types of Forums: General Forums, Musical Forums, Forums for musicians, different Forums and Forums dedicated to bands.

GENERAL FORUMS

You will find in the general Forums: discussions about the music, about different matters, SoM’s improvement (same for SoR), the different announcements, the help and the First Circle.

In the Forum of SoM's improvement, you will find different important topics:

· The topic " Bug " to indicate technical problems,
· The topic " Spell checking of SoM " to indicate the spelling mistakes which you can meet on the site,
· The topic " Metal-Maps " which indicates you the state of promotion of the list of cities by country, and also serves to make a demand of city addition or missing countries to create or complete an index card,
· The topic «Guide of the submissions» who indicates you the different updates of the guide.

There is also 3 topics to improve the quality of Spirit of Metal's encyclopedia, you can win supplementary points by participating:

· The topic "Perspicacity" to indicate the errors of the base,
· The topic "Ingenuity" to try to find missing data,
· The topic "Acuteness" to indicate the errors in videos.

There is also a topic “Different ideas to improve SoM" which allows every member to propose new ideas to make the site more accessible and complete.

In the Help Forum, you will find answers to your questions or you can also raise there your questions.

The Forum of the First Circle is reserved for the members of the First Circle.

MUSICAL FORUMS

In the musical Forums, the various music styles are represented (Black, Death, Thrash, Heavy, etc.).

FORUMS OF MUSICIANS

There is a Forum by type of musical instruments (guitar, drums and keyboard), to exchange on the instruments (practice, advice etc.).

DIFFERENT FORUMS

In these Forums, you will find all other Forums not matching the previous categories.

You will find there among others the Forums of all the working teams, the Forum « Announce Gigs » to make announcements of Gigs to come, as well as different Forums not concerning music: sports, politics, video games, cinema, literature, mangas, data processing, history, etc.

BANDS’ FORUMS

In these Forums, you will find Forums dealing only with a band.

As soon as a band is referenced on SoM and SoR, its own Forum is automatically created, it is not then necessary to create one.


PRIVATE FORUMS

Some Forums are only accessible to certain members, these are invited by the Admin or the moderator of the Forum.


ADMINISTRATE A FORUM

Every Forum is under the responsibility of an administrator (see paragraph 2.6.3).


THE FORUMS’ FUNCTIONING

ACCEDE TO A FORUM

From the Forum’s homepage, in every group of Forums (see paragraph 2.3.) you might find all the Forums of discussion relied.

They are sorted by title, its Admin also appears and a summary description of the Forum.

On the right side, you will find the number of topics presents and the last messages written, with the name of the topic, the pseudo of the member as well as the date and the hour.

By selecting the name of the chosen Forum, you will reach all the topics of this Forum.
On the top, you shall find the name, the description, the Admin, one or several moderators, the language, and the type of Forum (public or private).

The page of the Forum is spitted in two parts, in the top all the post-it, which are messages considered important which will stay in this part to be more easily available for consultation.
You shall find for example the charter there. On the bottom, you will find all the other subjects.

For every subject, you will find the same presentation, with on the left the name of the subject, three front pages and the last one as well as the pseudo of the member which created the subject, the number of answers, number of times or it was seen and the last message, with date, the hour and the pseudo of the member.

On the left of the subjects, is an icon, which if it represents a padlock means that it is impossible to add of messages.

Access the subject, select this one, either by clicking this one Access the front page, or by clicking "back page" to arrive on the page or represents the last message.

Below on the right, is the pagination, select the arrow downward to display all the pages and choose the wished page. The arrow towards the right allows selecting the following page, the arrow towards the left allows selecting the previous page.

On a page, you will find the various messages. These are always represented in the same way with, on the left the alias of the member and on the right the message with on the high part the date and the hour of the message.
Under the pseudo of the member, is the number of stars of the member with his date of registration on the site and the number of messages posted on the Forum.
The symbol with the exclamation mark is also to warn the moderator in case of non compliance with the charter (see paragraph 2.2.1).


WRITE A MESSAGE

To write a message, from the page of the wished subject, select the option "Add an answer" located above on the left and below on the left of all the pages. Whatever is the current page your message will always be the last one.

A table entitled "Post an answer " appears with in its center a text field and some icons of command. Click in the text field to be able to type the text.


TEXT SIZE

As a general rule, the size of the text is 3, but you can however modify this one by selecting another size with the small upper left arrow over the text field.

TEXTE COLOR

The icon (File:Couleur.gif ) will allow you to put all or any of your text in color by selecting a color in the list.

PRESENTATION OF THE TEXT

The icon (File:Gras.gif ) allows to put all or any of your bold text.
The icon (File:Italic.gif ) allows to put all or any of your text in italics.
The icon (File:Surligné.gif ) allows to underline all or any of your text.

You can lay out your text to make it more smart and (perhaps also) more understandable with icons (File:Liste 1.gif,File:Liste 2.gif,File:Tabulation 1.gif,File:Tabulation 2.gif ) to create paragraphs and gaps.

Arrows to undo (File:Defaire.gif ) and to redo (File:Refaire.gif ) allow to return behind or forward in the construction of your text.

You have the possibility of enlarging your text field, to see this one in its entirety, by selecting arrows high and low located above on the right over the text field.

INSERT AN INTERNET LINK OR AN E-MAIL ADDRESS

You can insert an internet link with direct access to this one, by selecting it in your text, to do so select the icon (File:Createlink.gif ) and type or make one cut / paste of the link. You can delete an internet link and transform it into simple text with the icon (File:Unlink.gif ).

In the same way, you can insert a link towards an e-mail address by selecting the icon (File:Inserer email.gif ).

INSERT A PICTURE

You can insert a picture by selecting the icon (File:Inserer image.gif ). A window "Invite the user to access Internet Explorer" displays. For a picture since internet, select the picture, and then make cut / paste of the link.

You cannot insert directly a picture from your computer, you have to insert this one via an internet link (URL).

To do so:

· Go on your internet explorer and type (Http: // www.imageshack.us/) You must be registered on this site during your first connection (there is no financial subscription(commitment)),

· Select the icon ( Browse),

· Select the picture from your computer which

· Validate and wait

· A table appears with a view of your picture and a series of line of text with various commands,

· Select the line being behind (Express Link),

· Copy this line to paste it on the line of command of the window « Investigate to Use Quick », and validate,

· The picture should appear.

If this one does not appear, it is because it is of too big , you have to decrease it at first with an adapted software (Paint for example) to begin again then the manipulation described previously.

INSERT A VIDEO

You can insert a video through Youtube by selecting the icon (File:Youtube.gif ). A window "invite to use Internet Explorer" displays, copy out the link or make one cut / paste of the link in the continuation or in the place of the line (http: // www.youtube.com).

INSERT QUOTATIONS

You can insert messages or part of message already sent previously by using the tag "Quote" selecting the icon (File:Insere quote.gif ).

The text [Quote] [/Quote] joins as a line of text, write or insert the text to be resumed between both tags ([Quote] text to be resumed [/Quote]).

You can also indicate the author of the extract of the text reference of which you make ([Quote=author] text to be resumed [/Quote]).

INSERT SMILEYS

You have the possibility to decorate your text, by inserting one or several smileys there. These are available in the right part of the text field.


SENDING OF THE MESSAGE

When your message is ready to be sent, click "Send", located under the text field.
Your message will appear following the others in the chosen subject.

MODIFY / DELETE A MESSAGE

MODIFY A MESSAGE

You have the possibility of modifying as often as you wish your own messages. To do so:

· Above on the right of the message to be modified, select the option (File:Edit.gif ),

· The page corresponding to your message appears,

· Modify it and select "Send",

· You will see your message with your modifications. However, your message will stay in the same place in the subject (no modification of date and the hour),

· Also use this function to avoid of flooder (see paragraph 2.1.11).

RESUME AN EXISTING MESSAGE

You have the possibility of answering a message of another member by resuming all or any of its text. To do so:

· Above on the right of the message to be resumed, select the option (File:Quote.gif ). This option works as that seen in the paragraph 2.4.2.7,

· You will see the page corresponding to the message, with the text framed by marks out them [ Quote] and [/Quote],

· At first the message appears in its entirety. You can take a part by deleting what does not interest you. You can write your message before and\or after tags,

· Select "Send",

· Your message will appear lastly in the subject according to date and an hour.

DELETE A MESSAGE

To delete one of your messages:

· Select it with the option " edit " (see paragraph 2.4.3.1),

· Your message appears,

· Under the text field, is a line " Deletion of the message ",

· Mark the compartment " delete this message ",

· Select "Sent",

· Your message disappears


CREATE AND MANAGE A TOPIC

To create a new topic:

· Select the Forum the most adapted to your subject (see paragraph 2.3),

· At the top of the page with all the subjects, select the option "New topic",

· A table " Post a topic " appears,

· In the compartment ( name_topic ), type the name of the topic you want to create,

· In the page of text, type the first message of your topic,

· You have the possibility of adding a poll to your topic, for it under the page of text, is a part " Addition of a poll ",

· On the line (question of the poll), enter the question theme of your poll,

· Add, if you wish it a duration on the line (lasted the poll:) in day. If you indicate nothing, the duration will be unlimited,

· Select the option " Add the poll ",

· You can add a vote on the line (add a possible vote for this poll),

· Then select the option " Add the option to the poll ",

· Add so many possible votes as you wish it,

· Select the option "Send",

· Your topic appears.

Your topic created, at the top of this one, you will have several possibilities:

· " To subscribe to this topic ", will allow you to be warned to every new message,

· " To invite a person / allows friendly ", you to send a message to become known your topic to one or several members, or to all your friends,

· " To publish the topic " to modify its title, but also you can lock it to prevent the addition of any new message by selecting the option " to Lock this topic " or to delete it by selecting the option " To delete this topic ", it then will be requested to you a confirmation of this deletion before its definitive deletion,

· You have the possibility of unbolting your topic by selecting the option «Unbolt this topic ".

Above on the right, you have the possibility to make appear your topic on various supports; Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Stumble It, Email, or more (a list of various supports is displayed).

An Admin or a moderator can possibly ask you to modify your title if this one is not clear or does not respect the charter.

 He can also change your topic of place if this one is not in the good Forum, even to delete it if this one is except charter or provided with a little elaborated subject. 

CREATE AND MANAGE A PRIVATE FORUM

A Forum is a place of discussion around a global theme. Post regularly new topics to keep it active. Before starting the creation of your own Forum, assure that you are enough motivated to take care of it, that you know enough members to make it live and that you will not forget two weeks later.

To be able to create your own Forum, you must have posted at least 30 messages on the various Forums.

CREATE A NEW FORUM

To create a new Forum:

· Select at the bottom of the list of the Forums the option " create your own Forum ",

· A table of presentation" Creation of a personal Forum " appears,

· On the line " Name of the Forum ", indicate the name of your Forum,

· On the line " Description of the Forum ", indicate a brief description of your Forum, which will appear under the title in the list,

· On the line " Logo of the Forum ", you can select a logo to represent your Forum. To do it, select "to Cross" and look for an image in the format .jpg,

· On the line "Access to the Forum ", you can choose "Public" or "Private". The option "Public" will return your Forum accessible to all the members. The option "Private" will return your Forum accessible only to the members whom you will authorize,

· On the line " Language of the Forum ", select "Frenchman"("{French people") or "English", your Forum will be located on the French or English Forum according to your choice,

· Validate the creation of your Forum by selecting the option "Create".


ACCESS TO YOUR NEW FORUM

To access your Forum:

· Before being able to access your Forum, an Admin will check it before validating you will be prevented by private message as soon as you can reach it,

· Your Forum is validated, you will find it in the list of the Forums following its title ( alphabetical classification),

· Select your Forum,

· You become the Admin of your Forum, you are responsible of the good behavior of your Forum, and you have to make it respect the charter. You can be helped by one or several moderators,

· If you chose a private Forum, you have to select the members who will have access there. Select the option "Private Forum – List of the members ", the list of the members having an access to your Forum appears (since its creation you are the only one appearing).

· Select the option "Manage the members of your Forum ". In the table “Management of the members ", on the line "Alias", type the new member which you want to authorize, then as soon as it appears in the list, select "to Add", the new member appears in the list of the members, this one has now access to your Forum.

FORUM ADMINISTRATOR

The Admin of a Forum is not only his creator, but also his manager. He manages the whole aspect of its Forum, names, his moderators and members. Only one Admin by Forum even if several moderators can operate.

An Admin is a moderator with more responsibilities. He possesses not only all the rights (deletion of a topic, lockage, movement, etc.), but moreover, those of the Admin (management of the Forum, the members, etc.).

The Admin can change the appearance of his Forum, his name, his description, turn it public or private, add moderators, etc.

As an Admin you can access to certain tools by selecting the icon (File:Admin.gif ), you then will:

· Reach the list of your Forums,

· Configure your Forum,

· Manage the members of your Forum,

· Add smileys to your Forum,

· List of the warnings given onto your Forum,

· Guide of the moderators,

· The last messages posted on your Forum,

· Guide of the administrators,

· Modify the appearance of your Forum,

· Manage the moderators of your Forum,

· Delete definitively your Forum,

· Banish members from your Forum,

· Invite somebody to discover your Forum,

· Manage the topics of your Forum.

Do not confuse the Admin of a Forum with the Admins of the site (see paragraph 1.2). However, these last ones also have the possibility of intervening in the management of your Forum.

MODERATOR OF A FORUM

The moderator is appointed by the Admin of the Forum (see role of the moderator on paragraph 2.2.1). He helps this one to manage the Forum. It may have several moderators by Forum. Moderators also have tools by selecting the icon (File:Modo.gif ).


THE ENCYCLOPEDIA

SoM and SoR's encyclopedia are an important part of both sites; it includes hundreds of thousand data. This database is classified in a thematic way given the possibility of crossed researches. The data are spitted through index cards.

THE SECTIONS OF THE ENCYCLOPEDIA

SoM and SoR propose as a walkthrough, index cards for labels and for the bands. These last ones are subdivided as follows:

· Index card for the band

· Index cards for records (including lyrics or no)

· Bibliographic index cards (of the band and / or his members)

· Links videos for the discovering bands

The whole rest (reviews, interviews, pictures galleries, live reports etc.) see paragraph 4.

WALKTHROUGH THE ENCYCLOPEDIA

FIND AN INDEX CARD

To find a band, you can use several elements of research from two pages (SoM and SoR's homepage and bands’ page).

HOMEPAGE

It allows you three possibilities:

· The alphabetical list: select a letter to display the complete list of the bands beginning with the selected letter. The symbol # represents the bands’ name containing or be composed by numbers (1349, 666, etc.).

· The research module: located on the right of the alphabetical list, it is represented as follow File:Recherche.jpg . You just have to type the name of the band in the compartment "Search" select the option "Ok" to make appear all the bands either sharing the same name or starting with.

· The list by genre: located under the research, you can find the bands according to their musical style; a drop-down menu appears while clicking on. Select the style in the drop-down menu by clicking on, to validate the choice click on "Ok".

BANDS’ PAGE

The bands’ page is accessible from SoM and SoR’s homepages, selecting the tab "Bands", then "List of the bands" and by selecting the corresponding icon or the option "Access", a table "Classification" appears then:

· You can select the option "Continent", then one of five continents (Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania), then finally a country, Access the list of all the bands listed for this country.

· You also have access to the option "Advanced search". By selecting this one, you reach a table with several criteria’s. You can enter a part of a name of the band, then specify the country, the style and the date of formation (you can choose the number of criteria’s). By selecting the option "Search", you will obtain the list of the referenced bands, corresponding to the chosen criteria’s.

You will choose the entries which suit you for your personal researches on the site. Concerning the check of the presence of a band,

We strongly recommend you to opt for an alphabetical research using the search module located on the homepage of both SoM and SoR.

It’s the simplest way to see if a band is not already present on both SoM and SoR (depending on which site you’re connected hu?).

Don’t forget to check on the twin site of Spirit of Metal, Spirit of Rock, if the band which you wish to add is not there.

Indeed, certain transverse bands between Rock and Metal are sometimes on a site, sometimes on the other one. To return you on Spirit of Rock, you have to click the link "Spirit of Rock" appearing in the Top left of the screen and accessible from every page you visit on Spirit of Metal.

PAGE OF LABELS

The label’s page is accessible on both sites from the homepage, by selecting the tab "bands", then "List of labels ".

· The alphabetical list: select a letter to display the complete label’s list starting with the selected letter. The symbol # represents the labels the name composed by numbers (666 records etc.).

· You also have access to the option "Search". Enter the first letters of the name of a label; a list appears with various propositions of existing labels. Select the chosen label and validate by clicking the option "Go".

PAGE OF METAL PLACES

The page of Metal places is accessible from Spirit of Metal's homepage, by selecting the tab "bands", then "Metal place".

· The alphabetical list: select a letter to display the complete list of the places Metal starting by the selected one. The symbol # represents the Metal places beginning by or containing numbers (Higway 666 Cafe, etc.).

· You have the possibility of selecting the option "Geographical research ". A world map appears with all the Metal places registered on the site. Select the chosen place, a screenshot appears with the name, the address and a picture of the place. Select the name Access the index card of the place.

· You also have access to the option "Search". Enter then the name of a Metal place, then validate by clicking the option "Go".

VIDEOS

There are two solutions Access videos. Either by going directly on the page of the chosen band, or by selecting the option "media" from SoM or SoR’s homepage, then "Video".

· The alphabetical list: select a letter to display the complete list of the videos among which the bands beginning with the selected letter. The symbol # represents the Videos beginning by or containing numbers.

· You also have access to the option "Search". You can enter the first letters of the name of a band, a list appears with various propositions of existing videos. Select the chosen video and validate by clicking the option "Go".

BIOGRAPHIES

It is not possible to directly find a biography. You must first access to the band’s index card.

PAGE OF THE ARTISTS

The page of the artists is accessible from SoM and SoR's homepage, by selecting the tab "bands", then "Artists". You will find the list of the most known artists as well as the producers of their albums.

· The alphabetical list: select a letter to display the complete list of the artists beginning with the selected one. The symbol # represents the artists which name begins or contains numbers. Warning: the first letter represents the one with which the artist is registered on SoM or SoR or often his first name.

· You also have access to the option "Search. Enter the first letters of the name of an artist; a list appears with various propositions of existing artists. Select the chosen artist and validate by clicking the option "Go".


NAVIGATE FROM BAND’S INDEX CARD

Select a band’s index as explained above (paragraph 3.2.1.2) every index card is introduced in the same way.

The logo, which is the image picture of the band, is represented at the top of the index card.

GENRE

You find the genre in which evolves the band in the section "Genre".
It propose to you, on the right of the index card, in the section "In the same style", until five bands evolving in the same register, with a direct access on the index card of the various bands to allow you to discover these bands.

STATUS AND DATES

· In the section "Status", if the band is active, it is indicated "Active") and if the band is inactive, it is indicated "Split-Up".

· In the section "Date formation", is indicated the band’s date of formation.

· If the band has splited-up, a section "Split date" will appear with the breakout date.

COUNTRY

You find in the section "Country", the country as well as the city of the band.

POPULARITY AND FANS

· The section "Popularity", indicates a band’s popularity through a number of stars (from 1 to 5). These are calculated according to the number of albums as well as to the fans.

· In the section "Fans", the number of Somians fans of this band. By selecting the number of fans, a list of these fans appears. You can select the option " Join the fans of the band " to put this band in your preferred, or select a present member in the list Access on its profile and create a possible a link with this one.

PICTURES

On the right, an unwinding inserts showing the logo as well as three pictures. Access one of these elements, select the option "Logo", ""1, 2", or "3" under pictures, to be able to display it then, click the image to return to the initial state.

LINE-UP

· In the section "current Line-up ", the list of the present members in the band, with their played instrument.

· In section “Other bands / comments ", the other bands in which the member played or still plays, as well as diverse comments (dates of participation, specific role, date of death for a member), etc.).

· In the section "Past members", the list of the members having participated in the band but left since then.

· In section “Other bands / comments ", the same remarks as for the present members.

DISCOGRAPHY

In the review "Albums", the list of the band’s albums with their name, followed between brackets by the type (EP, CD,…) and of the year, a musical note ( ) meaning that a tune is listenable. The symbol ( ) means that the album has an index card with lyrics, and finally, the symbol ( ) means that one or several reviews or comments have been written.

For the consequent discographies, only the albums in their format CD and LP are listed on this section. Access the whole discography, select the option "Complete discography” located at the bottom of the list.

The complete discography is decomposed into five maximum parts (these appear only when a production is already referenced):

· Albums (CD, LP, EP, Live, Split, Compilation, Box), Demo and Cassette)

· Videos (VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray)

· Singles (Single and 7 ")

· Bootlegs

· Tributes

The number appearing in every category indicates the number of present productions made.

RECORDS

Access the index card of a record, select the present list in the section "Album" or in the complete discography by selecting either the title or the picture cover. You will find the support (album, video, single, bootleg or tribute), the presentation of the index card stay the same.

· In the top of the index card, is indicated the genre, followed by the name of the band and by the title of the record.

· Underneath, the support, the publication date and one or several labels. If you select the label, you will open his index card.

· On the left part, the picture cover.

· On the right part, the tracklist.

· Under the picture cover, select the option "Lyrics" to display these, if they are already indexed.

· Select the option "Extracts" to listen extracts of the record, if they are already indexed.

· In the bottom, may appear one or several reviews whit their comments.

· On the index card, six options are available:

o “Modify the album" to bring modifications to the album.

o "X members possess this album" indicate the number of Somians having this album in their record collection. On the right, it's mentioned "you already own this album" if you have added it to your albums list.

o "Add a review" to add a review to the album (see paragraph 4.2).

o "Print this article" to print the index card of the album.

o "Following album" Access the index card of the following album.

o "Previous Album" to return to the index card of the previous album.

There are two other options located on the right of the index card:

· "Return to the band" to return on the index card of the band (crazy no ?).

· "Return to the discography" to return on the index card of the discography.

BIOGRAPHIES

There are two types of biographies, band’s ones and members of the band’s ones.

· On the right of the index card, in the section "to see also", select the option "To know more about it" under the title " Biography of the band " Access the biography of the band (this option appears only if a biography exists).

· The biography of a member of the band is located in the part "Line-up " on the right with a picture of the member and the indication "To know more about it", to select the picture Access the biography.

VIDEOS

You will find all the band’s videos on the bottom of the index card in the section "Videos". Only three videos maximum are displayed from the index card. Select arrows right or left to display more videos or select the option "All the videos" to make appear a table with all the videos of the band. A drop-down menu allows you Access the whole list. You also have the option "Search" to accurate your research.

PICTURE GALERIES

On the right of the index card, in the section "Picture galleries", you access to the present various picture galleries of the band. Select a picture Access the whole picture gallery taken during the event.

From this picture gallery, through the option "Alphabetical selection", by choosing a letter you reach all the present picture galleries on the site for all the bands. You also have the option "Search" to accurate your search.

OTHER INFORMATIONS

On the right of the index card, in the section " to see also ", besides the biography of the band, other links are accessible:

· "Last news", Access the last news (awesome no ?).

· "Official Site", Access the official web site of the band, but also Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and RSS (as far as the Band gets this supports and they’re already referenced).

· "Diverse Links", Access the various pages of labels referenced on all the albums of the band, but also in diverse web sites (fans' sites, interviews, Forums, etc.).


NAVIGATE FROM A LABEL’S INDEX CARD

Select a label’s index cards same way as described on paragraph 3.2.1.3. Every index card is introduced in the same way.

LOGO

The logo is represented above on the right by the index card.

STATUS

In the section "Status", if the label still active, it indicates "Active" and if the label stopped its activities, "Inactive" appears.

NATIONALITY

In this section, the label’s country.

OFFICIAL SITE

In this section, the label’s official web site links towards the other web sites of the label: Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and flow RSS. They appear only if the label owns some.

NUMBER OF ALBUMS

In this section, the number of albums referenced for this label.

Under this section an insert introduces the recent releases of this label (4 maximum), represented by a picture cover, the name of the band and the title of the album, select the picture cover Access the index card of the album.

DIVERSE

Under the previous section it’s possible to access the last videos of the label if already referenced.

Down under section " Last news " my appear if there is an RSS link.

Finally, at the bottom of the index card, in the section " All the productions " all the productions of the label introduced under alphabetical shape appears. Select a letter then an album Access his index card. If the number of productions is low the full list of the albums will appear.


NAVIGUATE THROUGH A METAL PLACES’ INDEX CARD

Select a Metal place’s index cards same way as above, paragraph 3.2.1.4. Every index card is introduced in the same way.

At the top of the index card the name of the place.

Down is a description of the place.

You will find then the address of the place.

Then the web site of the place, select this one Access it directly.

On the right is a picture of the place.

Select this one or the option "To know more about it" Access the complete information’s. You will find further information as a map there indicating exactly the location of the place as well as two additional pictures.

Down, you will find links towards picture galleries taken in this place. Select in one Access the complete gallery.


NAVIGUATE THROUGH AN ARTIST’S INDEX CARD

Select an artist's index card with the method described in the paragraph 3.2.1.7. Every index card is introduced in the same way as above, paragraph. Every index card is introduced in the same way.

At the top of the index card is the name of the artist.

Down is the country of origin of the artist symbolized by its flag.

Then, If the artist is a musician, you will find the list of the bands in whom he participated or still participates. Select the name of a band Access directly its index card. If the artist produces, you will find the list of the albums produced. Select the title of an album Access directly its index card.

On the right is a picture of the artist, select this one or the option "To know more about it" Access the complete index card of the artist. You will find further information’s (biography,…) if already indexed.
Also on the right, you will find links Access the other artists' pages of the same band.


SEARCH ALBUMS BY YEAR AND STYLE

You can Filter the albums known on the site by year and style.
The albums list is available from the homepage by clicking on the tab "Bands", then "Albums list". A table named "Albums" is now displayed.
In the left column, select within the drop-down menu the year you want.
In the next column, select in the drop-down menu the style you want.
Then click on "Search" to display the list of all the albums known matching your search criteria.
Select an album to display its page.

THE SUBMISSIONS

Spirit of Metal's encyclopedia is a file free of access, which we can modify and feed of novelties. To make a creation or a modification, refer to the guide of the submissions (http://www.spirit-of-rock.com/wiki/index.php? Title=Guide_des_soumissions).

This one was created to guide you and allow you to correctly fill your adds and also to have a homogeneity in the presentations.

VALIDATION OF THE SUBMISSIONS

When you make a submission (addition or modification), according to your level in Spirit of Metal, this one can be directly visible on the site or will be seen only after validation. In every case, a submission will be verified by a member of the team of validation of the submissions (see paragraph 1.3.7).

To be validated a submission must follow the rules included on the guide. If it is not the case, a member of the team of validation of the submissions will send you a request for modification allowing you to correct your submission or will delete directly this one, if its considered inappropriate.

The role of approvers is to keep coherence and a quality for the whole sites.

They are bunch of submission on SoM and SoR all waiting to be validated. The members of the team of validation of the submissions make their possible to reduce at most the deadlines of validation, but some submissions require more time than others. It is thus possible that there are fluctuations in the time. Also, there is no minimum no maximum delay or deadline before validation.

As good and closer from the rules contained in the guide is your validation as fast it will be treated and also, if you submit frequently with the same quality, the validation team will remember you.

REQUEST FOR MODIFICATIONS

VALIDATION

If your submission is validated, the corresponding points will be credited however you won’t be advised through à PM.

CORRECTION

If once checked, your submission requires modifications or clarifications, you will receive a message "Request for modification " through the PM.

This message will request to modify or correct and one or several points. It indicates for each item, the points requiring a modification, an explanatory text of what we expect to help you to answer correctly on request.

These texts are standards replies; they can be completed by a personnel message of the approver.

You can moreover, in case of problem or of incomprehension, send him a message to have additional explanations. In every case, during exchange of messages, you are asked to use a correct language.

To answer a request for modification, select the link “list of submissions” in the message. Also in your Console board, an insert with an exclamation mark indicates you that you have on going requests to achieve.

Select the option "My list of requests" to arrive on a table " Wait of modification " with all the on going requests.

Select in the list the request. You will find the same message as in the private message.

Two possibilities are then offered at the bottom of the message, " Contact the Admin " to send a message to the approver, or " Correct this submission " Access the concerned index card.

To modify your index card(, select the option "Modify", do what you have to, then indicate in the compartment "Comments" located at the bottom of the index card the modifications done.

Select "Send". A table appears indicating you that your submission was registered. You can find your submission in your Console board in the section "Submissions", then «Submissions in expectation ".

You still have the possibility to modify your index card by selecting this one and by doing again the same step below.

When you send your modified index card, a message is sent to the approver to indicate him that you answered his request of modification.

After check, if your modifications were complete, your submission is validated, your points are confirmed but you don’t receive a message of confirmation.

Your request of modification disappears from your list of requests.

It might be possible that you receive another request for modification if all the corrections hasn’t been done, to avoid them go and come from message, respect the guide of the submissions and do not hesitate to ask of the help to the approver.

PENALITIES

If you don’t reply to a request or just ignore it the result will be a loss of points as well as a possible penalty.

You have 30 days to answer a request, after this deadline, the approver will modify your submission or delete it if it doesn’t bring any kind of interest.

If you make the same errors during various submissions, an approver can you impose a penalty, which will appear under the shape of a loss of points.

SANCTIONS

You can be forbidden by submissions if:

-Your errors in your submissions are too recurrent

-You never answer the requests for modifications,

-You subject is a fake (band, record, label),

-Your comments to approvers are offensive.

You can even be banished from SoR and SoR (if having he same behavior) if your behavior is not compatible with what we can expect each member.


THE WEBZINES

SoM and SoR are also Webzines; you will find news, reviews, live reports, interviews, picture galleries and Gigs there.

THE NEWS

The news, are fast and concise information’s about an event concerning a band. In spite of their conciseness, they have to bring a minimum of information on the event related.

In news, we can find the release of an album, the recording of an album, a change of line-up, a Split or a reformation of band as well as the last videos.

Concerning videos, only those detected by Spirit of Metal's search engine (those proposed by the members must be directly subjected in the video section of the bands) appears.

You will find them on the left side of the homepage under the "News" banner; they are sorted by date, from the most recent to the older one, followed by a title.

Select the one who interests you Access the totality of the news.

Under this one you will find possible comments brought by the members. You have the possibility to add your own one by selecting " Add a comment ". A text page will be displayed as for the Forums, see the paragraph 2.4.2.

To add a news, refer to the guide of the submissions. Every news is verified by members of the team of validation of the submissions (see paragraph 1.3.7) before being published on the site.

REVIEWS

DEFINITION

A record review must be an analysis of this one, describing the style and its specificities, it also must explain his rank on a band’s life, explain the context of its release followed by arguments.

The review can be more or less long but if its really short, it will be considered as a “Comment”.

ACCESS TO THE REVIEWS

From SoM or SoR’s homepage, under the “Reviews” banner, you will reach the last five published reviews. Selecting the option "More reviews " located under the list, you reach the last fifteen published ones.

Other reviews are accessible from the bands on their discography. This logo n ( ) located on the right of the title of a record indicates the presence of a review.

If you select the complete discography, under the picture cover and the tracklist, a frame indicates the presence of one or several reviews as well as the presence or no Lyrics and of mp3.

Select the record Access the review located under the picture cover and the tracklist. It might be possible to find several reviews.

READ AN ANSWER TO A REVIEW

At the bottom of the review you have the possibility to read and add a comment. To do so, select "X comments", X being the already present comments.

A comment is introduced with the alias of the member, then the date and finally the comment itself.

You can react on the comment by selecting on the straight part, the raised thumb, if you find the interesting comment, the down thumb, if you find the comment without interest.

The question mark allows you, to indicate an abuse (non compliance with the charter), a message will be sent to an Admin who will intervene if need.

To add a comment, type a text in the frame below, then select "Add" to validate it.

At the bottom of the review, you have the possibility of thanking the reviewers by selecting the option " Thank the reviewer", a message will be sent to the reviewer.

You can express an opinion about the review, "Yes" if you find it useful and no if you don’t, the result is visible by the reviewer, when this one goes on his profile and consults the list of its reviews.

You also have the possibility of reaching the blog of the reviewer by selecting the option "The blog of the reviewer" located at the bottom of the review.

SUBMISSION AND VALIDATION

To create a review, please refer to the guide of the submissions.

Having written a review, this one must be validated by a member of the team of validation and second reading of reviews (see paragraph 1.3.1).

A review being a more or less long text, the check is longer than a simple submission of modification of index card. The deadline between the sending of your review and his publication might be variable.

It also might be possible that you receive through PM some request for modification or complements made by a member of this team.


LIVE REPORTS

Live reports are (as you might guess) gigs reviews.

To access these ones, on the right bottom of the homepage in the entitled section "Live Reports ". Select the one who interests you want and get totality of the live report.

Access the live reports concerning a band, from the homepage select the option "articles", then " Live Reports) " and "Reach".

An alphabetical list will be displayed. Select a letter to display the complete list of the live reports starting with selected letter. The symbol # represents bands which name is composed by or contains numbers.

As for a review, you have the possibility of adding a comment, to do so, at the bottom of live report, enter your comment in the frame text and select "Add".

THE INTERVIEWS

An interview is a meeting with a band, which engendered a series of questions / answers. There are two types of interviews, those written and those filmed.

You will find on the right bottom of the homepage a section "Interviews". Select the one who interests you Access it.

Access all the interviews, from the homepage, select the option "articles", then "Interviews" for the written interviews and «Video Interviews for the filmed ones then "Reach".
An alphabetical list will appear. Select a letter to display the complete list of the live reports starting with selected letter. The symbol # represents bands which name is composed by or contains numbers.

Some interviews are in French or in English but in both cases, not translated, but you can switch from French to English clicking on “Language”.

As for a review, you have the possibility of adding a comment, to do so, at the bottom of the interview, enter your comment in the frame text then select "Add".

To submit an interview, please refer to the guide of the submissions. Every interview is verified by members of the team of validation of the submissions (see paragraph 1.3.7) before being published on the site.

PICTURE GALLERIES

A gallery of pictures is a series of pictures of a band taken during a Gig or an event.

To access all the pictures galleries, from the homepage, select the option "articles", then "Picture gallery" and "Reach".

An alphabetical list will appear. Select a letter to display the complete list of the live reports starting with selected letter. The symbol # represents bands which name is composed by or contains numbers.

The pictures galleries are represented by the title (name of the band, the place and date), then the number of pictures follows and the date of the Gig as well as the first picture of the gallery.

Select the chosen gallery. A page displays the first picture enlarged in the center and the other pictures next size down in a smaller size.

Select every small picture to be able to enlarge it. Over the enlarged picture is the date of the recording and the responsible member.

On the right part, you have the possibility of reaching directly the index card of the band.

To submit a pictures gallery please refer to the guide of the submissions. Every pictures gallery is verified by members of the team of validation of the submissions (see paragraph 1.3.7) before being published on the site.


TOUR DATES

You will find in this section all the dates of events and gigs of your favorite bands.

Access all the tour dates, from the homepage, select the option "bands", then " Tours dates " and "Access". You arrive on two possibilities, " Gigs and events: search engine and " upcoming Date ".

TOUR DATES’ INDEX CARD

In " Upcoming dates ", gives access to the next planned Gigs. Every Tour date index card introduced with a title, the most explicit possible, then the date and the place and finally, the bands to the poster.

THE SEARCH ENGINE

In the " Gigs and events: search engine ", you have several ways to consult a Gig:

With the options "City" and "Band", you enter a city or the name of a band to access the events relied to your demand.

With the option "Geographical Search ", you access a map on which Gigs already referenced fare indicated by an icon. By selecting this one, you will access to the Gig index card.

With the calendar located on the right, you can make go through months using the right or left arrows. If the day compartment is dark gray, it means that there is no Gig referenced this day there. If the compartment is light gray, select it and access to all the Gigs planned this day.

To subject a Gig date, refer to the guide of the submissions.

METAL BLOGS

A Metal blog is a digital space allowing a member to propose regularly articles related to Metal (Rock if connected on SoR). Metal blogs are especially proposed to the reviewers of SoM and SoR to emphasize their reviews.

To access a Metal blog, on the member’s profile, access the section " diverse Information ", there is a line "Blog" with a link towards the Metal blog.

For the creation of a Metal blog, use the same method, then follow the indications.

The validation will be made by Kivan. To keep a Metal blog interesting, it is necessary to feed it regularly.


This one is directly managed by the creator, he is the only one responsible for the contents, however, the Admins of Spirit of Metal (and SoR) can close if necessary a blog. Other members have the possibility of adding comments to articles

REGISTRATION

From the homepage, select the option " my space ", then " Become member " to register you.
During your registration, some information will be requested:

An alias (once validated this one cannot be any more changed, think about it before propose it, also this one will have to respect the charter), it is possible that the chosen alias already exists, you will then have to propose another one,

A password,

Your e-mail address,

Your country and your city,

Your language,

Your birthdates.

To validate your registration, you will have to reproduce a check code given.

MEMBER’S PROFILE

From the homepage, select the option " my space ", then "Console board" Access your profile once this one created. Select the option "Edit my profile" to edit your member’s profile.

Once registered, you have the possibility to personalize or of modify some parameters.

In the section "Member’s profile ", you can modify your e-mail address as well as your password.

PERSONNAL INFORMATIONS

In this part you can present yourself, modify your date of birth, your country and your city. Also indicate your gender (boy, girl, unknown).

You can add a text of presentation in “About me". This text is left with the only mandatory to respect the charter there.

In the part "Contact", you can specify your various internet links (Blog, Myspace, MSN, ICQ, Skype, Account last.fm).

AVATAR

The Avatar is the image which represents you on the whole site, it has to be on a .jpg form and have a maximal size of 140x140 pixels. You can modify it as much as you want to. It is forbidden to put any Nazi sign.

SIGNATURE

The signature is presented under the messages you will left on different Forums. This one can be represented by a text and / or an image.

To insert an image, type [ IMG] image.jpg [/IMG] < / has >, (for the insertion of an image see paragraph 2.4.2.5).

Avoid a signature which takes too much place.

As for the Avatar, you can modify it, once more no Nazi signs will be tolerated. You also have the possibility of inserting a video, to do it, type [YOUTUBE] http: // www.youtube.com / watchtavideo / [ / YOUTUBE].

DELETE MY PROFIL

To delete your profile, from the Console board, select the tab "General ", then "Delete" in the drop-down menu.

If you wish to create a new profile, you have to delete your previous one.
Indeed, doubloons are erased, except through exceptional circumstances (several people using the same computer, brother / sister, husband / wife, mistress, etc.).

The deletion of a profile and the creation of a new one imply to start all over again in SoM and / or SoR's hierarchy.

RELATED INFORMATIONS

MANAGE YOUR RECORDS’ COLLECTION

You have the possibility to create your records collection, this one is accessible since your Console board, under your Avatar in the review "Albums".

In the top, you’ll find the albums already possessed in your collection; the alphabetical list allows you to visualize your albums.

You also have the possibility of reaching your collection of album on Spirit of Rock by selecting above on the right or "Rock" is "Metal".

To add an album to your collection, in the section " Add an album:” type the beginning of the name of the band, then select the band chosen.

All the albums of the band appear then. Select the album chosen to validate it. This one joins your collection. Another method consists in going directly on the page of the band, and then on the index card of the record on the right side select the option "collection" to add the record in your collection. On the album page, on the bottom right, it's mentioned "you already own this album"

To delete an album from your collection, open your list, on the right in the label of an album, is a red cross. Select this one to delete the record of your collection.

Either since your collection, or since the index card of the record, you can know how many members own this album.

Select the option " xx members possess this album " (xx being the number of people) Access the list of the owners of the record, this one is alphabetical and every member is possibly followed by the note that it put in this album as well as the dismissal towards the review which it realized.

To put a note in an album, select the index card of this one. Above on the right of picture cover, is a section "Note", select in the drop-down menu "vote", the note (from 1 to 20) that you wish.

Validate by selecting the option "vote" located to the right of the precedent. Your note appears now in your collection of album on the right in red in the label of the record.

MANAGE YOUR FRIENDS

For the friends’ management, access from your Console board, to the section "Friends". A table with all friends will appear.

In this table, each friend appears in a compartment with its alias and it’s Avatar. Above on the right, is a yellow star to put this friend in your top 5 and a red cross to delete him.

Also, in the bottom of the compartment, you have the option "Send a message" it access directly the page of a message to be sent to this friend.

In the high part of the table, is that of your top 5. The top allows 5 to you to have 5 friends in the compartments of the top; this can be interesting if you possess many friends.

When a member wishes to be part of your friends, he sends you a message. In the low part of the table, in the section "Friends to accept" appears the request, you have the possibility of accepting or of declining the offer.

To make friend's request, go on the Console board of the selected member. Under his Avatar, select the option "Add as a friend ". A text field will appear. You can type a text and select "Add" to send friend's request. You will receive a message to distinguish yourselves the agreement or the refusal of this one.

You receive a message through your PM to distinguish yourselves the birthday of your friends (3 days before).

To invite new friends, upper right of the table, are the options "Invite friends» to invite new members in Spirit of Metal (what will allow you to win 25 points) and " Find friends " Access a list of potential friends having certain number of favorite bands in common with you.

MANAGE YOUR FAVORITE BANDS

You have the possibility of creating a list with your favorite bands; this one is accessible from your Console board, under your Avatar in the section "Favorite Bands ". For every selected favorite band, you become a fan of this band. On the page of this band, in the section "Fans" appears the number of fans, select this number to discover the list of all the fans.

This one appears in tabular form with a compartment by band. Select a compartment Access directly on the page of the band.

To add a band to your list, in the bottom of this one, in the option " Add a band ", type the first letters Access a list of bands, select the chosen band may "Add".

Under this option, there is a table "Recommended Bands " with bands in the style of the bands already selected in your list or for which you have records in your collection. Select a band to make it enter your list.

Directly on the page of a band, you can select the option "Favorites" located above on the right under the name of the band, to add this band in your list of favorite bands.

To delete a band of your list, select the red cross located above on the right on every compartment of band.

MANAGE YOUR PERSONNAL NEWS

You have the possibility to share your personal news with your friends.

This is available from your Console board. They are introduced in tabular form in the central part of the page.

Every current event appears with in the left part the Avatar of the member then its alias then the created action followed by the link towards the action (band, album, new, topic, etc.) and the time was sold since the appearance of the current events.

Concerning you, they will see your new reviews, your new live reports, your new creations of topics, your news, your various comments, your new favorite bands, your new interviews, your new picture galleries, your new biographies and your new albums in your collection.

The same novelties concerning your friends are going to appear to you.

Other members are going to appear the new reviews of present albums in your collection, the new fans of your favorite bands as well as the new interviews, news, picture galleries and biographies of these same bands. Also, will appear the new members of your city.

You have the possibility to filter the news so that some are not visible any more.
To do so, from the top of the page, select the option " Filter the news " and disable the sections that you do not wish to see any more appearing. Then select the option "Close" to validate.

You have the possibility to comment on every current event. Indeed under each of, select the option "Comment" to see appearing a text field, type your text then validate by selecting the option "Comment" located on the right of the text field. Your comment appears. You can answer in the same way an already existing comment.


INTERNAL MESSAGING

The internal messaging allows you to send messages to the other members of Spirit of Metal and SoR. This one is accessible, upper right in the option "Private messages ".

Once in your messaging, you have three tables.

The right table indicates all the messages, both of left represent the menu of possible actions.

INTERNAL MESSAGING’S PRESENTATION

The messaging appears as a table with all the received messages, sorted by date.
Every message appears on a line, with on the left a compartment (to mark to delete or archive), the symbol of an envelope (indicates the reading and the answer), the sender, the subject, the date and the hour. This presentation is also valid for the outbox, the archives and the basket. Select a message to see appear its contents in a page of text in the bottom.

RECEPTION OF A MESSAGE

During the reception of a new message, you are warned by receiving an e-mail on your internet mailbox (this one corresponds to the email address registered during your registration).
Furthermore, the word " new " shinning on blue, appears to the left of the option " Private messages ".

WRITE A MESSAGE

To open the page of a message, in the table "Action"), located above on the left, select the option "Write". A message appears with a partially low page of text. To write a message, refer to the paragraph 2.4.2.

Indeed, the text of a message appears in the same way as that for the Forums.

You have the possibility of indicating a theme for your message to introduce briefly this one in the compartment "SUBJECT" located in the high part.

In the compartment "To" located on the Top, indicate one or several addresses. To do so, select the first letters of the alias to see appearing a list with the members corresponding to your search. You have the possibility to select several addressees.

Select the compartment "Add a confirmation of reading" to receive a message indicating you the opening of your message by the addressee.

Select the compartment " important PM, force the reading ", to indicate to your addressee that your message is important. This one will be indicated in red in the inbox of the addressee.

ANSWER A MESSAGE

To answer a message, open this one, then select the option "Answer". A page of text opens with the addressee and the subject (corresponding to that already received) already filled. Write your message then select the option "Send". Your message will be sent with the message of origin under your. It is so possible to have messages followed to keep the chronology of your correspondence.

MAKE FOLLOW A MESSAGE

To make a received message follow, that is send it to somebody else than his author, open this one, then select the option " Make follow ". A page of text opens with the subject (corresponding to that already received) already filled. Write your message, select one or several addressees, and then select the option "Send". Your message will be sent with the message of origin under your own one.

DELETE A MESSAGE

To delete a message, mark the compartment located to the left of the message to be deleted, then select the option "Delete". You can mark several compartments to delete several messages at the same time. The deleted messages meet in the basket.

In the basket, if you renew this operation, the deletion will be definitive. Attention, the size of the basket not being infinite, as soon as the maximum size is reached, the oldest messages will automatically be eliminated.

ARCHIVE A MESSAGE

Some messages might be important. You have the possibility of archiving them. To archive a message, mark the compartment located to the left of the message, then select in the tab "Actions"), the option "Archive". You find all messages archived in the menu "Archives". If a message is not archived, at the end of month it will be definitively eliminated.

CONTACTS

You have the possibility of creating a list with all most frequent contacts, to facilitate their search.

This one is accessible in the section "Contact" located in the left menu. At first, all friends appear there, however you have the possibility of adding members.

To do so, in the low part of the list of your contacts, click the option "to add contacts to your list, click here ", and select one or several members to be inserted into your list.

Your list of contacts appears in tabular form with to the left the alias, followed by the Avatar and by the option "Write". Select this option to write directly in the selected member.

RECHEARCH A MESSAGE

You have the possibility to look for all the messages received or sent by a member. To do so, in the table "Action"), in the dialog box, select the alias of a member, then validate with the option "OK". You visualize in the right part all the messages (sent, received, archived and cleared) of the selected member.

BLACKLIST

You have the possibility of forbidding certain members to send you messages. To do it, in the "Slim" table located to the left, select the option "Blacklist ". In the dialog box " Add a member to your blacklist ", select a member then validate with the option "OK", a confirmation will be asked you, select the option "YES" to validate. This member appears in the list. You have the possibility of deleting) a member of your list, select the option "Restore" located to the right of the alias of the chosen member.

From a received message, you can blacklist the sender. Select the option "Block" located above on the right.

ADMINISTRATORS’ E-MAILS

The Admins have a specific email address: [email protected]. These are to be used only in case of emergency (impossibility to connect for example).


THE CONSOLE BOARD

Your Console board is accessible from the homepage, in the table located to the right with your alias, your Avatar as well as the access to your private messages.

This one appears, with partially high four tabs (General, Articles, Forum and Submissions).

On the left part, you find a table with your alias and your Avatar with several possible options (See my profile, Edit my profile, Blog, Articles, Albums, Friends, Favorite bands and Submissions).

For all these options, refer to paragraph 5.1. Next size down is your circle with the corresponding logo and your number of points.

On the right part, you find a table with your city as well as number of bands referenced in your region (in fact a zone of 100 kilometers / miles around your city) and the number of members of Spirit of Metal (or SoR if connected on) included in this zone.

Below, is the table with your on-line friends and the last visitors of your Console board. In the central part, you find the table of the activities.

The number of tabs can vary when you make left one of the teams of Spirit of Metal or when you occupy precise functions.

Under the part of tabs, you will see the appearance of messages possibly received) asking you for a request for modification, new private message, etc.

GENERAL

In the tab "Profile", you find all personal information (E-mail and personal password, information itself, Avatar and signature), defined during your registration but modifiable at any time. To do it see paragraph 5.1.1.

In the tab "Preferences", you can modify the language of display of the site, and select two options; be warned in case of new private message and display its e-mail address.
