Biografie : Monogamy Party
As the dust settles on the first explosion of talent that has captured national attention, there’s another wave of young bands ready to follow in its wake. And one band that is going to be leading the charge is the young trio from Seattle known as Monogamy Party.
Taking inspiration from fellow raging NW bass-and-drums acts like Big Business and godheadSilo, vocalist Kennedy, bassist/vocalist Yos-wa, and drummer Keith (no last names, please) have been playing together for only two years. But in that time, Monogamy Party has managed to cause all manner of commotions in venues up and down the West Coast. They’ve been hailed for their “reckless abandon” on Seattle music blog Sound On The Sound, and The Stranger recently said: “They’re like These Arms Are Snakes meets Karp meets Black Eyes. They’re great.”
The three young men came together with one simple goal in mind. Says Kennedy: “We just wanted to do some touring.” The other musical projects that Kennedy and Yos-wa were involved in were both content to record and play local shows. The itch of wanderlust in their guts, the two starting pounding out ideas for a sludgier, slower band before pulling Keith into the fold. The young sticksman was able to inject some much-needed speed and fury into Monogamy Party’s sound.
Live, Monogamy Party is a force of nature. Kennedy spends more time punishing the audience with his body, as he belts out impassioned stream-of-consciousness rants. His bandmates follow suit with a powerful, punk-inspired attack. It’s unrelenting, aggressive, and impossible to ignore. The band have also managed to capture this raw energy in the studio, working with producer Chris Proff (Strong Killings, Mercy Ties, Ravenna Woods) on a debut 10″ called Pus City to be released this fall on fledgling Seattle imprint Good to Die Records.
The band will soon be achieving their ultimate goal of seeing the country through the windows of a tour van when they take off for their first U.S. tour in support of Pus City. Like everything Monogamy Party does, these forthcoming dates are not to be missed. This is a band that demands your attention. The best you can do is look right into the eye of the storm, and hold on for dear life.
